In a World of Digital Hollywood Blockbusters, Traditional Giant Screen Films Continue to Pull in the Crowds

Mike Day reports to the Kinotech Blog from the Science Museum of Minnesota, where this year’s Omnifest, a festival consisting of five films shown over a six week period in the Museum’s William L. McKnight-3M Omnitheater, proved to be a success yet again.  Yesterday’s final Saturday screenings saw an overall attendance of close to 5,000 people in the 370-seat IMAX Dome Theater.

The combination of classic and new films include: “Wild Safari,” “Tropical Rainforest,” Oscar winner “Old Man & The Sea,” “Sea Monsters,” and the final showings of “Hubble.”  Two additional showings of Hubble were added yesterday, one for overflow due to the last public showing of the film selling out, and the other for a sleepover camp .

Omnifest 2011 continues through Thursday.

The following behind the scenes videos were created as part of last year’s Omnifest.
