Because of the use of foreground, midground, and background during filming, we subconciously view photographs and films in three dimensions, even though the image may only be in two. On a recent episode of The Colbert Report, actor Geoffrey Rush was asked if it was more difficult to act for 3D for the new Pirates of the Carribean film. Rush’s response: “No. I always act in 3D.”
