Back in January, I reported on IMAX having applied with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a trademark on “IMAX Sapphire,” which is to be used for luxury theaters. The trademark was also applied for with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office. It now appears that the first “IMAX Sapphire” theater will be opening shortly after the launch of Harry Potter, at the new Mall of Russia, located in the heart of Moscow. It’s the second in a deal with Formula Kino, the first scheduled for St. Petersburg. No word yet on what the luxury features are, but I do expect valet parking.
